Moving Forward Standing Still

Losing my grip on these rocks
They’re mossy and wet
Slipping can’t help it I can’t
Colliding with rocks
They’re mossy and wet
With no boat or bridge
Across the river
What’s there on the other side?
Too much midnight Not enough noon
Drowning in I don’t know
But who, who needs to know
Moving forward standing still
Moving forward standing still
Sometimes the end leads me back
I wonder and hope
This path and that one all wind
Through water, through bush
I wonder and hope
Will my heart be whole
After a defeat
Do I really need to know?
What a mad world this fishbowl It’s smarmy and full
Rocks and moss, water all ’round
Wading deep, real deep
It’s smarmy and full
When this bowl’s dumped out
Into the ocean
Can I hope to be swimming?
Too much midnight
Not enough noon
Drowning in I don’t know
But who, who needs to know
Moving forward standing still
Moving forward standing still
I’m still used to wipe-outs and crashes
But I don’t ride a skateboard anymore
I just fall in love
And break my heart
